The Inaugural 维也纳的球 at UW-Eau克莱尔 was the vision and passion of community member 艾达鲍斯爵士.

The event would feature the University Symphony Orchestra in the Southwoods Ballroom of W.R. Davies University Center, performing primarily waltzes and polkas by 小约翰·施特劳斯. The ball would provide an opportunity to welcome residents of the greater Eau Claire area, 及以后, to come to the campus for a major social occasion showcasing student musicians.

In 1973 no alcoholic beverages were served on University of Wisconsin campuses. The 40th Annual 维也纳的球 was dedicated to 艾达 Smalley Bors, the event’s originator and creator. 艾达 coordinated the 维也纳的球 through its silver anniversary in 1999.

艾达 began her university studies in 1954 at Ohio University, where she majored in piano performance. She and 亚当博 were married in 1958, and in 1960 艾达 earned her Master of Fine Arts degree. 1967年，鲍斯一家搬到了欧克莱尔, and the following year 艾达 was invited to become a community member of the University Symphony Orchestra.

艾达 led the 维也纳的球 Committee’s successful campaign to obtain for the Univeristy a Bösendorfer皇家大钢琴，在维也纳手工制作. The Bösendorfer Imperial bearing the opus number 39688 was purchased in 1988 and made its debut at the 15th Annual 维也纳的球.

1995年，艾达被授予 为奥地利共和国服务的金质荣誉勋章 for bringing Austrian tradition and culture to the United States through the 维也纳的球. 艾达于1999年从大学中心退休, but she continued to support the 维也纳的球 and the university until her death in March 2014.
